Fanatics Sports & Casino, reviewed: two casino front doors on one build number
Fanatics announced one app for sportsbook, casino and prediction markets on 2 September. The store record shows two Fanatics casino front doors, both on 9.9.0, shipped eighty-five seconds apart. The teardown reads the listings.
A merger announcement and a store listing are two documents, and this desk reads the listing. Fanatics Betting and Gaming introduced Fanatics Sports & Casino on 2 September 2026 — one app, per the release, to “bet, trade or play”. The App Store the same week carries two Fanatics casino front doors on build 9.9.0, as it has since the standalone casino app launched in 2025; the merger leaves that pair as it was.
This reads the published record — both US App Store listings, both Play listings, the announcement — as of 3 September 2026. No install was timed and none is claimed; cold start and tap depth wait for a settled build.
The file
Two front doors, one release train
The version numbers are the tell. Both US listings show 9.9.0, and the storefront pages give only a relative date that moves each day. The precise stamps sit in Apple’s public lookup API: 31 August 2026 at 13:07:22Z for the merged app, 13:08:47Z for the casino-only one. Eighty-five seconds apart, two binaries out of one pipeline, two days before anybody announced anything.
The merged app’s page still carries Fanatics Casino - Real Money in its More by FBG ENTERPRISES OPCO, LLC row. The release notes are sharper. The merged app’s 9.9.0 note is boilerplate — improvements behind the scenes, keep automatic updates on — while the standalone’s names casino work: fixes, a weekly exclusive title, and a FanCash Jackpots opt-in. The app filed under Casino is the one whose notes say what shipped.
Neither listing carries a migration notice or a sunset date, and this desk will not infer one from a release that does not say it either. The record supports only the narrower claim: the operator maintains two casino entry points on one release train.
The package is the argument
The merged app is not new. It sits on the sportsbook’s identity — com.fbg.sportsbook on iOS, com.betfanatics.sportsbook.android on Play — which is why the announcement can promise a simple app update with account details, funds, FanCash and Fanatics ONE status intact. Keeping the package keeps the install base, the update channel and the review corpus — 4.8 from about 270,000 ratings against 4.8 from about 32,000 on the casino-only app. A new app record or bundle ID would have thrown the larger number away; renaming the existing record, which Fanatics has now done twice, costs nothing.
Competent release engineering — and why casino comes off worse: the app that survived is the sportsbook.
Where casino sits now
Read the merged listing as metadata rather than marketing. The subtitle is Sportsbook, Betting, NFL & NBA — casino is not in it. The App Store category is Sports; the standalone app’s is Casino. The description runs sportsbook first across four sub-headings, casino second, prediction markets third. On Play the merged listing sits in Sports under the label Cash Prizes, the casino-only one in Entertainment under Real Gambling.
None of that is cosmetic. Category is a discovery surface: a player browsing the App Store’s Casino section will not meet the merged app there — nor before the merger; it was already filed under Sports in July 2026.
Payload and states
The merged binary is 62.2 MB heavier than the casino-only one, a little over ten per cent, spent on products a four-state casino player may not be permitted to use.
The listing’s promotional line says the app is live in 45 states. That is app-level, and doing a lot of work: the release puts Fanatics Sportsbook in 23 states plus Washington D.C. and Fanatics Markets in 22 states and four territories, while Fanatics Casino stays at four US states — Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia — plus Ontario via the standalone app, per the Canadian listing. The casino half works in four of the forty-five.
Prediction markets stay out of scope, with one line for the file: release and listing both call the operator’s markets arm a CFTC-registered futures commission merchant and NFA member. Registered is not authorised, the listing itself warns those contracts carry a risk of total loss and are not available in all states, and none of it is a casino licence.
The two columns
Verdict
The honest summary: Fanatics has a sportsbook app that has carried a casino since at least January 2024 and has now dropped casino from its subtitle, not a casino app that gained a sportsbook. Which matters depends on the account you opened. That is the same tension this desk found in the bet365 casino app — casino as one tile in a multi-product dashboard — except Fanatics has now written it into the subtitle.
One settings note, as in every review here: whichever icon ends up on the home screen, the page worth opening first is the account’s deposit-limit and session-reminder screen, not the lobby. A merge changes the front door, not the controls behind it. Store facts above are as the listings read on 3 September 2026; availability varies by jurisdiction; both listings are rated 18+, and the operator’s terms require 21+.
